Shakhtar Donetsk – Dynamo Kyiv
Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv will go head to head for the Ukrainian Super Cup at the Stadion Chornomorets in the city of Odesa.
Last season Shakhtar did a golden double in Ukrainian football, winning not just the league, but the Cup as well. For Shakhtar this was a return to the gold medals, after Dynamo have won the league in 2015 and 2016.
In the final for the Cup Shakhtar won against Dynamo, making the double possible. It was a really terrific season for Paulo Fonseca’s team, which found a way to return to its best times when Shakhtar was dominating Ukrainian football.
We could say that Shakhtar will rely on the team which won the double last season. They got just one new player and this is the Georgian defender Davit Khocholava who was brought in with a free transfer from Chornomorets. Meanwhile the midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi was sold to the Belgian side Genk for 3 millions euro.
Meanwhile Dynamo also didn’t make much business on the transfer market so far. They brought in the Polish defender Tomasz Kedziora from Lech Poznan for an undisclosed fee. In the same time the midfielder Younes Belhanda was sold to the Turkish giant Galatasaray for a fee of 8 million euro.
This is a classic clash in Ukrainian football. The two biggest clubs in the country will go toe to toe for the first trophy of the new season. So far Shakhtar are the most successful team in the competition, winning it 7 times in its history. The current holders are Dynamo, who have won it 6 times. If Dynamo wins on Saturday night, they will level with Shakhtar in this.
We have all the reasons to expect a great night of football in Odesa. Two spectacular teams will face each other for the first trophy of the new season.
