Olympique Marseille – Sporting Braga
Olympique Marseille hosts Sporting Braga in a first leg from the 1/16-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
The French club reached the 1/16-finals after finishing 2nd in Group I. Marseille were in the company of Salzburg, Konyaspor and Vitoria Guimaraes. They ended their participation in the group with 8 points and a record of 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. This is not the the most consistent performance they could had, but it was good enough for them to reach the knockout phase.
Meawnhile Sporting Braga won a group with Ludogorets, Istanbul Basaksehir and Hoffenheim in it. The Portuguese team ended its participation in the group with 10 points and a record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats.
Olympique Marseille are the big favourite here, of course. The French club is performing well this season, being currently 3rd in Ligue 1. Marseille’s big goal is a return to the Champions League next season and this could happen in two ways – finishing in the Top 3 of the French league or winning Europa League.
In the Ligue 1 Olympique Marseille have 52 points and a record of 15 wins, 7 draws and 3 losses. So far Rudi Garcia’s team is showing a good performance and they have big chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Meanwhile Sporting Braga are currently 4th in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, just after the giants Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisboa. They have 46 points and 10 points advantage in front of the 5th Rio Ave. For now Sporting Braga can be calm that they are going to participate once again the next year’s edition of Europa League.
