Monaco – Olympique Marseille

Monaco hosts Olympique Marseille in a game from the fifth round of the French Ligue 1. These two teams are going to face each other at the Stade Louis II on Sunday. Shall we take a look?

The way Monaco started the new season really resembles to what happened last year. Right now Les Monegasques are 19th in the league standings with just two points won from four matches played and no win recorded yet. Last year the manager Leonardo Jardim was sacked because of a poor performance like this, before being appointed again to save the team from relegation. Can it happen again now?

In their last league game Monaco travelled to face Strasbourg and won a point after a 2-2 draw. The big hero for the visitors was the Algerian striker Islam Slimani, who scored a brace at the Stade de la Meinau. Sadly for Jardim and his boys, these two goals were not enough for the win.

In the same time Olympique Marseille are 8th in the league with 7 points won. Right now their record in the Ligue 1 goes like this: two wins, one draw and one defeat.

Marseille won just one point in the first two rounds of the league, but in the last two games Andre Vilas Boas’ team stabilized its performance and won twice. In the previous round the former European champions hosted Saint-Etienne at the Velodrome and enjoyed a 1-0 win. It was the Argentine striker Dario Benedetto who scored the winner in the first half of the match.

Against Olympique Marseille Monaco will try to achieve their first win for the season, but it won’t be easy, because it seems that Marseille are in a good shape at the moment. It’s going to be interesting to follow the managerial duel between Leonardo Jardim and Andre Vilas Boas as well.
