Freiburg – Bayer Leverkusen

Top 4 contenders Bayer Leverkusen are seriously hurt after their defeat against Wolfsburg, but on Friday they will have the chance to get back to winning against Freiburg away from home. That’s a first game from the 29th round of the Bundesliga. Let’s take a look.

What happened to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday was unexpected. They were in a run of three consecutive wins in the league, but suffered a disastrious 1-4 defeat at home from the hands of Wolfsburg. The visitors were four goals ahead until the end of the game, when the substitute Julian Baumgartliner scored one for Bayer. But this was everything the hosts could do on this day.

Because of this defeat, Bayer Leverkusen were unable to enter the Top 4 of the Bundesliga again. They remain 5th in the standings with 53 points, but being on the same level as the 4th Borussia M’gladbach. This means that Leverkusen are still very motivated to return to the Champions League and they have a good position to start from.

Freiburg on the other hand made a spectacular 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday. The manager Christian Streich and his players were not happy, though, because they had a clear 3-1 lead until the last ten minutes of the game. Somehow Grifo, Petersen and Holer’s goals were not enough for Freiburg.

Christian Streich can’t use some players for Freiburg’s next fixture. Yannik Keitel, Florian Kath and Yoric Ravet are all sidelined with injuries. Meanwhile Bayer Leverkusen can’t use Lars Bender and Kevin Volland.

In conclusion we can say that it’s going to be interesting how Bayer Leverkusen will react to what happened against Wolfsburg. They will try to bounce back against Freiburg, but they are playing away from home and it won’t be easy. Let’s see how they will respond.
