Besiktas – Bayern Munich
There ain’t much to be said about the Champions League 1/8-final clash between Besiktas and Bayern, after what happened in the first leg. Bayern Munich already think about their participation in the 1/4-finals of the competition after a 5-0 win at home. For Besiktas it’s now just a matter of honour to perform better in front of their own fans in Istanbul.
The first game just didn’t start well for Besiktas. The Croatian international Domagoj Vida recieved a red card in the beginning of the match, which made the Turkish team an easy prey for the Bavarians.
Now Besiktas are desperate to show that their qualification for the 1/8-final is not a fluke. The Turkish club have some really good players and they’d want to show it against one of Europe’s greatest clubs.
Bayern on the other hand are desperate to win the Champions League once again. They are dominating the Bundesliga with an ease and they are probably a little bored with what’s happening in their domestic league. But to enjoy another triumph in Europe would be something big for the Bavarian giant.
Bayern’s manager Jupp Heynckes came back from retirement to lead the team after the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti. Heynckes as an experienced manager who have won the Champions League twice in his career so far. He knows that his legacy would become really huge, if he wins the competition for a third time. And you can be sure that he’d try to do it.
The German club is one of the biggest favourites to win the trophy. The team had some problems under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, because the Italian manager was not dealing well with some of the players. But now everything is different.
Can Besiktas save their pride against Bayern Munich? We shall wait and see.
