Barcelona – Atletico Madrid

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are going head to head in the second Spanish Super Copa 1/2-final in Jeddah on Thursday. The winner from this game will face for the trophy the winner from the match between Valencia and Real Madrid.

Barcelona are the best team in the history of the competition, having won the Super Copa 13 times in their history so far. The Catalans are the reigning champions of La Liga and they are currently leading the standings.

For Barca this game comes after another shaky away performance for Los Cules this season. During the weekend Ernesto Valverde’s team didn’t win against the last in La Liga Espanyol. The game at RCDE Stadium finished with a dissapointing for the visitors 2-2 draw. Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal scored for Barca, but the team’s defense once again made some mistakes and this lead to a draw against Los Perricos.

We don’t expect big surprises from Valverde in this game against Atletico. You can be sure that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann will start in attack. Most likely Sergio Busquets and Frenkie De Jong will keep their places in the line-up, while it’s very possible to see Arturo Vidal beating Ivan Rakitic for a place in the midfield.

Atletico Madrid got on the plane for Saudi Arabia in a good mood after their 2-1 win against Levante on Saturday. It was not an easy win for Los Colchoneros, but they secured the points with two early goals from Angel Correa and Felipe.

Atletico’s manager Diego Simeone is still worried by the injuries of Diego Costa, Koke, Stefan Savic and Thomas Lemar. The young gem Joao Felix is still trying to settle up to life in Spain, but if he explodes against Barca on Thursday this could mean a problem for the Catalans.

That’s our quick preview for the Spanish Super Copa 1/2-final between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on Thursday. We expect some tight tactical fight here, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see many goals in Jeddah.
